METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing gum from concrete depends on the gum’s age and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left recently and it has not penetrated the surface yet, we are sometimes able to remove it by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a workable consistency compared to a warm and stringy glob. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper under the gum residue. Next we move the scraper slowly under the gum and the entire piece should peel right off the concrete.

The above method is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove gum that is already black, or is smashed down into the concrete, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we won’t use very high pressure because that might damage the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses any more pressure than needed to safely clean concrete surfaces. These types of surfaces can be destroyed a lot easier than people think, especially if they’re only a few years old. Concrete can require up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional chewing gum removal professional.
